Description The innovation policy has become the key part of economic policy in the European Union and its member states. The innovation policy is comprehended as a tool for competitiveness increasing of economics. Success of its implementation depends on wide range of factors. Dominant factor is the ability of enterprises to innovate products, processes or services. The article is divided into two parts. In the first part there are presented theoretical resources related to principles of formation and implementation of innovation policy and its conception in the Czech Republic. This part also demonstrates innovation performance in the CR and its comparison with other states. The second part of the paper is focused on innovation policy in the CR. The core of this part lies in analysis of institutional, strategic and programme framework. Subsequently the attention is paid to assessment of objectives and measures of innovation policy. The article leads to several conclusions and recommendations. The presented results can be used for further more detailed assessments or studies, especially for research of impacts of innovation policy on economics, regions or individual economic subjects.
