Citation
Description The legitimation of military action in public discourse tends to be accompanied by various linguistic strategies on all levels of analysis, including such techniques as hyperbolic rhetoric on the textual level, the skillful use of presupposition on the pragmatic level, the manipulation of transitivity on the syntactic level, and the choices in naming and collocation on the lexical level. The interplay between these factors results in the creation of in-group consensus on political issues with a typically international dimension, while contributing to the polarization of different opinions and the exarcerbatio of divisions between various national/political/religious groups, based on stereotypical perceptions.
