| Description | This article is about the terminology and features of urban socially excluded localities. It is engaged in the terms that connect categories of (urban) space and enforced social exclusion. Author particularly follows concepts of slum, ghetto, inner city, zone of transition, abandoned city, pockets of poverty, Skid Row and underworld. Some of these socio-spatial terms could be traced in the works of the first pioneers of urban sociology, the others in the publications of their followers, including students of related disciplines (urban geography, urban planning, etc.). These terms serves frequently to indicate similar phenomena and sometimes they are mutually interchanged. Thus, the aim is to refer about significant differences among these terms, according to relevant authors. Nowadays Czech cities are turning into higher inner diversity, the segregation and the symptoms of social exclusion are increasing. That's why terminology view mentioned above can help to distinct of particular excluded Czech urban localities. Some examples of these localities are also presented. |
