Description The strong associations between smoking and increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality have been documented in many epidemiologic studies and through determinants of risk and protective factors and the mechanisms of their modification by smoking. Smoking cessation has a significant beneficial effect on the reduction of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and thus offers a great opportunity for a comprehensive approach to health education.
