| Description | Based on Leechs model of communication the author discusses the relationship between discourse and text and explains the importance of the Co-operative Principle and the Politeness Principle for successful communication and adequate interpretation of meaning to be conveyed. While presenting examples which illustrate how meaning is communicated in different contextual situations, she proves that there is permanent negotiation of meaning between all discourse participants. Thus, the study of language devices that enhance the flow of interaction and contribute to the establishment of discourse coherence becomes indispensable, in particular in language teaching at faculties of education. |
