| Description | Type 2 diabetes mellitus is both serious disease and an important risk factor for cardiovascular and oncological morbidity and mortality. The indisence of disease has increased worldwide. Smoking is among one of the main risk factors for this disease. Currently, associations between smoking and type 2 diabetes mellitus are geberally accepted and scientists are concerned with the study of causality. Smoking cessation is associated woth a short-term increased risk, followed by a gradual decrease to the level typical for never smokers. It is estimated than more than 90 % od type 2 diabetes mellitus is preventable by smoking prevention and lifestyle modification. |
