| Description | The book chapter presents basic data from the field Psychopeadia which means education of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The author characterizes this field of study, defines mental retardation, dementia and socially caused mental retardation. The author describes the etiology of mental retardation, classification and characteristics of particular types of mental retardation according to WHO. Down syndrome is also mentioned in the text. A very important part of the text is the summary of the educational system for pupils with intellectual disabilitis from pre-school age till the adulthood, which is a system based on long term research studies in the Czech Republic. |
