Description The purpose of this text is to familiarize the reader with the situations and possibilities of psychosocial support for women whose child has died in the prenatal or perinatal period. The authors consider premature births and the deaths of preterm babies as current and worthy of interdisciplinary attention. They have focused on the situation where the child died before or during childbirth, or within the first days after birth. Their main point is how the mother is responding and what type of psychosocial care and support is to be offered to the parents. Other points ask how this type of support can be improved in the future. One possibility could be written training for neonatology unit health workers in crisis intervention and management, and closer cooperation between the medical realm and social services by nongovernmental organizations.
