Description This paper is focused on the Czech legal regulations on requirements for lighting in various types of buildings and establishments, designed to protect human and animal health, healthy living conditions, and the environment. The legislation requirements for lighting reflect the principle of prevention, one of the fundamental principles not only in environmental law. The amendments to the legal regulations, in addition to relevant court decisions, are mentioned in order to outline possible problems in the application and obstacles to the effective implementation. It is still difficult to enforce the public health protection related to the requirements for lighting in practice.
