Description Legionellosis is an acute bacterial disease of the airways and lungs caused by Legionella bacteria. The reservoir of Legionella is natural and also artificial aquatic environments. The transmission to human beings occurs by inhalation of infectious aerosols. The process water intended primarily for cooling was tested, 126 samples from the injection molding operations, and 104 samples from manufactories of flat glass. In all plants, there were found varying degrees of Legionella species pathogenic to humans (the most harmful findings: Legionella pneumophila sg.1, Pontiac), and saprophytic species (L.rubrilucens, L.nautarum, L.species). For a person it is conceivable to contract a disease while operating in the maintenance and cleaning of machines and refrigeration systems. Prevention is mainly ensured by the regular maintenance and disinfection of cooling water biocides, by the introduction of the Risk Assessment, within the medical prevention mainly medical checks for staff.
