Description Osteoporosis is one of the most serious metabolic illnesses of the skeleton, involving a rising number of osteoporotic fractures, a rising economic burden for treatment of the disease and complications and, not least, an increase of suffering for many people. Non-pharmacological prevention of primary osteoporosis is possible and can be very effective. A precondition for preventive behaviour is good awareness, something which is a fundamental determiner for conscious compliance with the principles of a healthy lifestyle and so also of preventive behaviour. The main aim of this thesis was to answer the question: what knowledge do women of various ages have on osteoporosis, and what influence does the type of the school some are currently attending have on this?
