Description Developmental dysplasia of the hip represents a frequent cause of joint degeneration. Triple pelvic osteotomy can slow down its progression. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the results in the authors sample. Material and methods: In 2003 – 2006, Steel osteotomy was performed in 17 patients (10 men, 7 women) on 19 symptomatic hips. The mean age was 26 years (range: 15 – 44 years). Simultaneous proximal femoral osteotomy was carried out in 3 cases. The minimum follow-up period was 4 years (range: 8 – 4 years). Results: The degree of dysplasia (Severin) decreased in 17 hips. The acetabular angle was corrected from 51deg. to 41deg. on average, CE angle from 13deg. to 18deg. and head migration index from 42 % to 28 %. Progression of the joint degeneration (Tönnis) was observed in 2 cases. The clinical condition (Merle dAubigne and Postel) improved in 17 hips. No serious complications occurred. Conclusions: Triple pelvic osteotomy fulfils the basics requirements of redirectional surgeries. Better results are obtained in very early stages of hip degeneration. The ideal indication for the deceleration of the progress of the disease is the spherical congruent hip joint with positive CE angle.
