“Science is no longer a matter of an individual but requires collaboration of experts from various disciplines, institutions, often even continents. Masaryk University offers quality facilities and opportunities for its scientists as well as for scientists from abroad and thus it creates good conditions for continuous development of knowledge. The diversity and freedom of science, responsible world-class research, societal engagement, and cooperation are values that our university honors and promotes.”Šárka Pospíšilová

Support from the International Scientific Advisory Board
The International Scientific Advisory Board provides us with very welcome feedback. The ISAB helps MU establish research priorities, develop scientific strategies and boost international cooperation.
We focus on areas we excel in
We set the pace for settlement research
Masaryk University's cutting-edge equipment and state-of-the-art laboratories at the Department of Archaeology and Museology Interdisciplinary centre are frequented by both Czech and international archaeologists. The department's crucial importance for history and culture studies is evidenced by the fact that MU is also the seat of the oldest UNESCO Chair on Museology and World Heritage in the world.
We are dedicated to fighting cyber threat
Cybersecurity research conducted at the Institute of Computer Science focuses on critical issues addressed by both the Sustainable Development Strategy of the Czech Republic and the European Secure Societies challenge. And thanks in part to the MU Faculty of Law, Czech Republic is a world leader in cybersecurity legislation.
We issue expert opinions for vegetation and habitat research
The four-volume monograph Vegetation of the Czech Republic is just one of the results achieved by the Department of Botany and Zoology. We also issue expert opinions utilized by the European Environment Agency to improve the European habitat classification system.
We have results.

Our scientists have achieved success at national and international levels. In addition to issuing a wide range of significant scientific publications, we regularly organize seminars and lectures on science and research conducted at MU.
We share our technologies and facilities
Access to central laboratories equipped with unique instruments is provided to other university units as well as other academic workplaces and even private companies.
We are shaping the scientific environment
for the better
We participate in key infrastructures
MU Research infrastructures are an important pillar of research and innovation systems.
Their significance is emphasized by our participation in 15 projects listed in the Czech National Roadmap for Large RDI Infrastructures.
Nine of these projects are also part of research infrastructures of pan-European interest included in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) for 2016.
We provide our scientists with excellent working conditions
International grant projects
We have successfully obtained numerous international grants. The European Research Council (ERC) is tasked with awarding grants to top scientists from the 28 EU member states and associated countries; MU currently boasts three ECR grant holders.
Regional innovation support
The SoMoPro programme is co-funded by the Horizon 2020 programme, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions and the South Moravian region. Of 62 projects supported by the region to date, 44 were awarded to scientists associated with MU.
