Software Developer / Researcher
Workplace: Nacional center for biomolecular research, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic
Type of Contract: temporary position with 1-year contract (with possible extension), non-academic
Working Hours: 0,5 or 1,0 FTE (part-time for 20 hours or full-time employment of 40 hours per week)
Expected Start Date: By arrangement or negotiable with respect to immigration timelines for non EU candidates

National Centre for Biomolecular Research at the Faculty of Science MU is focused on the study of bio(macro)molecules at the atomic level using experimental and computational methods. Equipment for nuclear magnetic resonance, crystallography, study of biomolecular interactions, genomics and proteomics is available. The department has access to powerful computational capacities used for computational chemistry, bioinformatics and chemoinformatics. The department also provides teaching and training of bachelor's, master's and doctoral students in study programs focused on bioinformatics, biomolecular chemistry, genomics and proteomics, and life sciences.
At NCBR, we are developing a software tool for visualization of 3D molecular data called Mol* (https://molstar.org) and we are looking for a talented developer who will help us extend the project with the ability to visualize experimental data from microscopes using at MUNI (https://cellim.ceitec.cz/).
Job Description
Key Duties:
- Development of software for 3D microscope experimental data processing
- Adding new functionality to existing tools (e.g., data down sampling)
- Deployment of the developed solution within the MetaCenter infrastructure (OpenStack)
Skills and Qualifications
The applicant must have:
- Education in a technical area, e.g., Computer Science (can be an ongoing study),
- Willingness to learn – we are constantly using new tools and process and need you to grow with us,
- Proactive attitude – we are looking for people who are comfortable actively searching for solutions within a defined domain
- Knowledge of the Python programming language
- Git (GiHub), Docker (+compose)
- Good communication skills
The applicant should have:
- Knowledge of TypeScript and React is an advantage
- Interest in geometrical algorithms and 3D visualization (the Mol* library) is an advantage
- This is mainly a development position, but academic publishing experience is an advantage
