Popis Nowadays the cultural management is a widely discussed topic due to the fact that economic and social importance of the cultural and creative industries in the long term increases. According to the current Czech cultural policy, cultural and creative sector in the EU has grown the last few years by more than 12% points faster than the average for other sectors of the EU, for example in 2003, the sector achieved a turnover of more than € 654 billion, which is more than eg turnover of an automobile manufacturing. It is no coincidence that cultural management as a specific discipline is taught in Czech and foreign universities and is the subject of scientific research in the field of cultural studies. Cultural management is different from the usual management in response to the specific social function of culture in society. This function consists of the performance of public services involving the support of culture in society. Even the European Union has repeatedly stressed the importance of fulfilling the cultural function of the state. In the first part of this paper we will discuss how exactly the legislative framework of cultural management in the Czech Republic is set. This aspect is crucial for the further consideration of the question of the most effective forms of Czech cultural management. In the second part we will focus on the issue of connections between culture management and legal consciousness, especially how the legal awareness of cultural management can affect functioning of the cultural institutions in the economic environment. At the end of the paper, attention will be paid to the question whether the benefits of cultural management lies only in its immediate economic results, or whether it is necessary to include additional benefits of creative and cultural industries. The aim of this contribution is to explore what are the specifics of cultural management in the context of Czech law and proposals for its improving in relation to all areas of its impact.
