Popis In this paper, which is a part of my overall research on the Cistercians and the violent persecution of the religious dissidents, the aim is to follow how the attitudes of the Cistercians monks towards violence, as they were expressed in their anti-heretical discourse. Having as point of departure Bernard of Claivaux's mission in Southern France in 1145, the focus will be shifted on Geoffrey of Auxerre and Henry of Marcy, before I move to the Cistercian anti-heretical discourse in the years prior to the Albigensian Crusade. The main question, that will be posed is how their attitudes on violence against the heretics changed through the years. Was there a dominant approach regarding the violent repression or there were voices that propagated the use of other means? During this inquire, I will focus on the specific arguments that the Cistercians used in order to justify or not the use of physical violence.
