Popis Health is a universal concept but its implementation in one’s personal life can be different across cultures. Individual perceptions of health influence lifestyle habits, choices and decisions that are created and modified by the cultural environment. While the United States of America and most countries in Europe are labeled as the western culture, (Euro-American) the perception of what is a healthy lifestyle in individual countries can be different. Having different understandings of health requires different strategies of health promotion. Methods that are valid in one population might be useless or less effective in another. Therefore, developed concepts of health promotion should be expected to be valid only for the population from which they have arisen; and should be sensitive and tailored to the cultural groups they are applied on. The purpose of this article is to present findings of a literary review focused on the role of culture in health promotion, which is often absent in the current social scientific discourse.
