Popis Carassius auratus complex represent the complex of forms (or subspecies) non-indigenous for the waters of Czech Republic. Based on the mtDNA genotyping, this complex is composed of four forms (or subspecies): Carassius auratus auratus, Carassius auratus gibelio, Carassius auratus langsdorfii and Carassius auratus M-line. Among them, Carassius auratus gibelio represent the most common form occurring recently in Czech Republic. The combination of gynogenetic and sexual reproduction in this species represent very successful life strategy. This invasive species exhibits a high degree of ecological tolerance and adaptability. The members of Carassius auratus complex entered to the waters of the Czech Republic from the Danube River through the Slovak-Austrian part of the Morava River in 1976. In the present study, we focused on metazoan parasite communities of Carassius auratus gibelio. During a long-termed study (four-year investigation of metazoan parasite communities) we analysed the dynamic of host-parasite interactions in diploid and triploid form of gibel carp. Our analyses revealed similar values for parasite infection in gynogenetic females and sexual individuals. The maximum prevalence and the highest intensity of infection were found for the following helminth species: Dactylogyrus dulkeiti, Dactylogyrus anchoratus, Gyrodactylus sprostonae (Monogenea), and Schulmanela petruschewskii (Nematoda) in both forms of gibel carp. However, our study revealed the temporal variation in parasite load in both forms which could be potentially explained by the dynamics of host-parasite interactions predicted by Red Queen hypothesis.
