Popis Liquid-modern society, according to Zygmunt Bauman, lives permanently tormented by various threats that are not so much real as imagined and opportunely manipulated by various sectors of power and public opinion. Purposefully, Bauman speaks of our society as being subjected to the "Titanic syndrome," a sense that our universe is like the Titanic always threatened by various icebergs, which may take the form of news of terrorism, natural disasters, economic collapses, etc. Moreover, liquid fear can also correspond to a gray, indistinct and dark zone where threats germinate without any visible, identifiable and rational cause. In this paper, therefore, I intend to reflect briefly on the images of liquid fear in the three types of social universe presented in the prose of Joao Tordo (O Bom Inverno), Teresa Veiga ("Negra sombra que me haombras") and Luísa Costa Gomes ("Frankenstein revisited").
