| Popis | The aim of this lecture was to offer a new perspective on the definition of literature in the political philosophy of the Enlightenment. Indeed, the term ‘literature’ had a completely different meaning in eighteenth-century France than it does today. Drawing on the theory of Jan Mukařovský, the leading representative of Czech literary structuralism, this lecture has shown that the predominance of the aesthetic function did not automatically imply the classification of a text as art at the time of the Enlightenment. On the contrary, the aesthetic function was always accompanied by an intellectual function in texts of political philosophy. So how do we describe the aesthetic norm of the Enlightenment? |
