| Popis | In past decades, the translator was usually an invisible person whose name one could read in the colophon of a book. It was/is an unwritten rule that the translator had to be invisible and was a person behind the scenes who had to convert the book to another language. His job was to convert the text as best he could from the source language to the target language and then disappear. Yet this is more complicated. Nowadays, the translator's identity, knowledge and financial position are getting more and more attention. What is the current position of the literary translator within the field? In this lecture, we will discuss the position, tasks, roles the translator fills these days and his changing (in)visibility. We will also look at what opportunities and projects exist for translators and translators-in-training. |
