Popis Cytokinins play a crucial role in regulating root growth, particularly through their interaction with ethylene signaling pathways. In our study we investigates how cytokinins induce root-specific ethylene production and how they spatially control ethylene-mediated root growth. Our findings demonstrate that cytokinins upregulate both 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthases (ACSs) and oxidases (ACOs), enzymes critical for ethylene biosynthesis. Specifically, cytokinin signaling cooperates with ethylene signaling to enhance the expression of ACO4, an important ethylene biosynthetic gene. Through the activation of ACOs, cytokinins mediate ethylene production, thereby exerting precise control over root growth. These results provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms by which cytokinins modulate root development, highlighting their role in the coordination of cytokinin and ethylene signaling pathways in a spatially specific manner.
