Popis The aim of this article is to find out what are the attitudes of a group of university students of Spanish, whose mother tongues are Czech and Slovak, in relation to their learning of spelling and punctuation. First, some reflections on the teaching of spelling and punctuation in Spanish learning are collected. Secondly, the methodology of the study is presented, based on a questionnaire in which 40 students of the Bachelor’s Degree of Spanish Language and Literature at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, participated in order to share their learning experience. Third, the results of the analysis are offered and discussed. Among the conclusions, the study highlights the conflict for learners of Spanish to apply and respect spelling rules in digital environments, such as chats and social networks, when some native speakers of Spanish do not use punctuation marks or commit spelling mistakes in their interactions.
