| Popis | The Relative Age Effect (RAE) has been researched for more than fifty years, yet we found just one relevant study about the influence of the RAE in young (female) dancers. From the research sample consisting of young female dancers (N = 89, age 13.71 +/- 1.23 yrs) we obtained information about their birth date, body height, body weight, and hand- and toe-grip strength in the dominant and non-dominant limb. In individual classes, we found only a small to medium effect of the RAE according to the distribution of birth data. In other variables related to anthropometric characteristics, we found that the absolute and relative muscle strength were not significant due to the large influence of the RAE. The results of the study showed that the RAE is not immediately evident when using established methods (i.e. absolute values), but they are apparent only after a more thorough analysis of relative values. From this we concluded that dancers are not selected to the conservatory according to the factors relative to age and muscle strength. |
