Popis This article explores Romanesque stained glass between the late 10th and the late 12th century, emphasizing the challenges posed by the fragmentary preservation of early glazing and the historiographical ambiguity surrounding the term “Romanesque.” After addressing issues of relocation, stylistic labels, and the limited survival of in situ glazing, the study examines the interplay between stained glass, architectural space, and painted decoration within distinctive Romanesque lighting environments. Through a survey of the geographic distribution of surviving windows—dominated by northern France, Germany, and England—the article highlights marked regional disparities and recent discoveries that nuance earlier assumptions.
