| Popis | This text introduces the figure and lyrical work of Zen master Dogen (1200–1253), founder of the Soto school of Zen. Dogen's rich literary legacy has been preserved in several collections and the poems presented in this text consist of two collections: the Collection of Dogen's Japanese waka Poems, Dogen Zenji Wakashu, and the collection of Chinese texts from Dogen's Extensive Record, Eihei Koroku. The focus of this paper are translations and commentaries of Dogen's poetry. Using selected poems as examples, I will illustrate how Dogen created, wrote, and, above all, perceived and reflected on the world around him. In his poems, Dogen used expressions from Buddhist texts, as well as images and parables from continental Chan collections. Dogen's poems, like his other literary works, are therefore a treasury of Zen wisdom passed down in an unbroken line of masters and ancestors through poetry and lyricism. |
