| Popis | Transition metals are widely employed to promote heterogeneous catalysts, yet their effects on Ru-based CO2 methanation remain unclear. Herein, mesoporous silica supports promoted with Ti, Zr, Nb, or V were synthesized via an aerosol-assisted sol-gel process to systematically compare their effects. With fixed promoter (4 mol%) and Ru (2 wt%) loadings, vanadia exhibits a unique promoting effect, attributed to Ru-V synergy that facilitates hydrogen spillover and generates oxygen vacancies. Increasing V loading to 16 mol% markedly reduces specific surface area and induces macropore formation due to V2O5 crystallization, yet significantly enhances activity, with CH4 formation at 250 degrees C 8 times higher than unpromoted Ru/SiO2. This improvement is rationalized by improved Ru dispersion and hydrogen spillover from Ru to adjacent V species. In-situ DRUV-Vis and XANES analyses reveal V5 + reduction to lower oxidation states and oxygen-vacancy generation, while in-situ DRIFTS shows modified CO adsorption, thereby promoting methanation via the CO pathway. |
