| Popis | The article synthesises current knowledge of early medieval iron production in Moravia, with special emphasis on the Great Moravian period and its economic and political context. It argues that iron production was largely concentrated in sparsely settled peripheral zones and closely tied to central places that coordinated resource exploitation and distribution. Using the Scandinavian concept of utmark, the author proposes a model of seasonally used outlands integrated into regional market networks. After the collapse of Great Moravia, iron production may have become more decentralised and increasingly oriented towards local self-sufficiency. |
