| Popis | Disinformation poses a significant threat to national security, particularly when it targets military and law enforcement personnel who can inadvertently amplify false narratives. This study investigates the role of attention in mitigating susceptibility to disinformation, focusing on members of the Czech armed forces and law enforcement agencies. Using a quasi-experimental survey design, participants were exposed to simulated disinformation in conjunction with attention checks. The results reveal that while attentiveness can reduce the perceived credibility and likelihood of sharing more obvious disinformation, its impact on more subtle forms is limited. Analysis suggests that attention alone is insufficient to combat the spread of false information, pointing to the need for comprehensive approaches that incorporate digital literacy, cognitive resilience, and algorithmic interventions. The findings underscore the importance of understanding cognitive vulnerabilities within security sectors and call for further research into holistic strategies for disinformation resilience. |
