The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, Masaryk University, invites applications for the following position:

Assistant Professor or Lecturer in European Studies, Regional Economics and Policy

Masaryk University, Faculty of Economics and Administration, is looking for a highly motivated and productive Assistant Professor or Lecturer in the field of European studies, regional economics and policy (or related areas such as political science, international studies, public economics). The position is initially funded for 3 years, after this time the contract might be extended.

The position is designed to allow the candidate to work in an established team. Active participation in teaching (both lecturing and tutoring) is an integral part of the job. The candidate accepting the role of assistant professor will pursue a research agenda including publication activities and developing new research projects.

We are looking for:

For Lecturer:

  • a quarter to half-time lecturer (0.25 - 0.5 FTE candidate with a PhD degree in European studies, political science, regional economics or relevant field),
  • professional interest in European studies and regional economics (namely in political science, international studies or public economics),
  • experience in teaching university-level courses (thesis supervision is an advantage).
  • good command of the Czech and English language.

For Assistant Professor in addition:

  • or a quarter to half-time assistant professor (0.25 - 0.5 FTE candidate with Ph.D. degree in European studies, political science, regional economics or relevant field)
  • background in relevant research methods,
  • publication potential in leading scientific journals.

What does the position entail?

For Lecturer:

  • teaching 4 (for 0.25 FTE) to 8 (0.5 FTE) seminar groups weekly according to position and FTE / in spring semester in Czech and English in Policies, institutions and EU law including teaching especially in Czech [Politiky, instituce a právo EU]),
  • participation in the state final examination committees in Czech and English,
  • supervising final theses in Czech and English,
  • active collaboration with other members of the department.

For Assistant Professor in addition:

  • design research projects and prepare submission of grant proposals,
  • conduct your own research,
  • publish research in leading social science journals.

  • A half-time (20 hours a week) Lecturer / Assistant Professor position at one of the highest-ranked universities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
  • A 3-year initial contract (with possible extension).
  • The monthly salary starts from 18 000 CZK (i.e. €700) before taxes depending on qualification and seniority (gross average half-time wage in the Czech Republic is around €900/month, median wage is €750/month; your salary will be burdened with 20 – 25% income taxes). In the case of meeting the annual goals, the employee is entitled to bonuses.

For Lecturer:

  • a full professional academic CV,
  • overview of teaching practice,
  • a motivation letter together with a vision of your own work in the department,
  • copies of evidence of qualifications.

For Assistant Professor in addition:

  •  a research paper (working paper or journal article),
  • name and contact of a referee who will provide recommendation letters upon request.

Your application will be considered by an expert committee. Candidates of interest will be invited to an interview, and, if relevant, to deliver a trial teaching session/seminar/lecture.
