Regional elections in 2012

Stanislav Balík a kol.

Regional elections in 2012 certainly didn’t represent such a turnover as the parliamentary elections in 2010 or 2013 did. On the other hand, these elections were not boring or uninteresting; it weren’t elections after which everything ran away in the same ways. Seen through the prism of the theory of second-order elections we had the opportunity to verify whether the government parties are punished and opposition rewarded by voters, what topics dominate the elections - whether the interesting national, or boring regional topics.
These and many other topics can be solved in several ways. This book tries to use the way of the comprehensive and deep understanding of the causes and consequences. There meet the proven and innovative approaches, as well as the skilled and the beginning political scientists.
The structure of the book corresponds to the logic of the electoral process. We can see the following topics: the structures of candidates lists; the party financing; the topics of election campaigns and parties programs; the election results; the electoral geography of regional elections compared with previous elections; preferential votes for individual candidates and their compliance; the voter shifts between the elections 2010 and 2012; regional executive coalitions.
