Hans Belting: Trace and Face. Open questions about the beginning of Christ’s images
The Center for Early Medieval Studies at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, would like to invite you to a lecture given by Hans Belting entitled “Trace&Face. Open questions about the beginning of Christ’s images”, to be held on December 18th, at 5 P.M., in the Moravian Gallery, at the seat of the Museum of Applied Arts, Husova 14, Brno.
Hans Belting, formerly Professor at the universities of Heidelberg, Munich and Karsruhe and also Visiting Professor at Harvard, Columbia University or College de France, is a living legend of Art History. A very long list of his publications touches the art throughout the ages, from the Early Middle Ages up to the present. His contribution to the field of anthropology and theory of image is of particular importance. His books, among others Bild und Kult, Bild-Anthropologie or Das Ende der Kunstgeschichte? not only enjoyed a wide scientific recognition, but they were also well received by the general public and translated into ten languages.
