Rethinking 20th Century Europe focuses on driving forces of European history in the 20th Century

  • 12 – 13 April 2016

The fourth conference: Rethinking 20th Century Europe focuses on driving forces of European history in the 20th Century. The main question is which particular events, organisations, ideas and individuals were the driving forces of European history in the 20th Century? Were the individuals really the driving forces of history or was it the event which enabled the individuals to grow? What criteria did a particular event have to meet in order to be interpreted as being of historical importance? Did any organisation have the power to become a driving force of the 20th Century history and to uphold fundamental changes? Did revolutionary ideas and new concepts have the power to change the world or did the endeavour of their creators come to nothing?
Various presentations will be delivered by PhD students and young scholars from Czech and foreign universities. There will be given sufficient time for subsequent discussions which are intended for all audience. The Conference should become a platform for deeper and more precise understanding of recent and remote past as well as for rethinking those matters in an international context.
