The project "The Formulation and Development of Strategy of Containment in the U. S. Foreign Policy between 1945 - 1953" represents a two-year complex research and analysis of the process of formulation, development and implementation of this strategy in the U. S. foreign policy between 1945-1953. Even though this strategy was, with some modifications, aplied in the U. S. foreign policy towards the U.S.S.R. during the whole Cold War era, especially the period of its initial formulation played in the U. S. foreign policy a key role. It also significantly influenced the development of America-Soviet relations and also the U.S. approach toward the Soviet satelites, including Czechoslovakia. These phenomenons presents a great challenge for contemporary Czech political science. The project attempts at analyzing the process of formulation of this strategy, main factors that led to its initiation and impacts of its implementation on foreign policy of Truman administration, especially on its political, military and economic aspects. The main goal of the project is a publication of a book focused on the above described issues. The research findings will also be published in a series of articles. A part of the project is also an opening of a new course at the Department of International Relations and European Studies at the FSS MU.
