The project has a character of an international comparative analysis. It concentrates on the crisis of old and the formation of new social identities and group solidarities in four post-communist societies - in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungar y and Lithuania. The process of identity and solidarity formation will be conceived as consequences of legitimation crisis. This processes stands at the centre of our attention because of its potential to generate intergroup conflicts. These conflicts te nd to transform into collective conflicts which influence both the micro relations of everyday life and macro level of political community. Elite play a decisive role in this process of identity reconstruction, since they formulate and represent models o f identity and solidarity. Thus our research will focus on semi-standardised and deep interviews collected in four cities of selected post-communist states with the representatives of dominant and minority elite who create new models of identity.
