Field Sociology, demography
Keywords Roma; ghettos; logic of ghettoization; socially excluded Roma areas
Description This paper covers the processes of ghettoization in socially excluded areas in the Czech Republic that are settled mainly by the Roma. I have attempted to document the logic of ghettoization using the case of an area called Poschla that emerged in Vsetín in 2006. On the basis of semi-structured interviews with inhabitants and social workers, I endeavoured to find out whether Poschla was in the process of ghettoization. From the interviews and other collated data, I searched for signs of ghettoization and social exclusion as we know them from sociological theory, especially drawing from the ideas of L. Wacquant.
