Description Anthropogenic interventions in the landscape connected with the gradation of environmental risks are the result of changes in the society. The increase in their extremity leads to the revision of current practice with a shift from mere emergency response to long-term risk planning. The aim of this paper is a discussion of specific consequences of this change using the flood planning as an example. Attention is paid above all to the participation of the public which becomes an important part of almost all planning processes and it is planned that the public should take even greater part in the future. There are only few examples of good practice at present. As a perspective direction seems to be a combination of open methods for facilitating of public participation in planning processes using the modern information and communication technologies.
