Description Alcohol and tobacco smoke are two most common human terratogens; their deleterious effects on foetus, newborn and child are well documented in many epidemiological, clinical and experimental studies. There is no safe threshold of exposure, the outcomes are dependent on the exposure in critical windows during pregnancy. The total abstain during both periconceptional and the whole pregnancy periods is the best recommendation for both parents. To reach this aim, the wide and good understandable public information are the basis.
