| Description | This paper summarizes the results of anthropometric measurements within the project "Physical activity in the Czech Republic", which was undertaken between 2011-2013, mostly on the territory of South Moravia and adjacent regions. A total of 1,466 persons (672 men and 794 women) was measured and divided into six age groups from 18-29 years up to 70+ years. Body height significantly increased from the oldest to the youngest age groups, reaching 181.3 cm (n = 240) in men and 169.0 cm in women (n = 212) aged 18-29 years. In the age group 18-39 years (391 men, 377 women), relative sitting height was 52.58% in men and 53.33% in women, and relative arm span was 101,52% in men and 99,29% in women. The results confirm the continuation of the positive height trend, but the examined population sample can not be considered as representative of the whole Czech republic, because generations measured in past nationwide anthropological surveys are consistently shorter. The documented values of relative sitting height and relative arm span show that the Czech population can be regarded as short-limbed, when compared with other European nations. |
