Citation
Description The comment focused on two elements, which formed the nineteenth-century images of communities in the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The first was the discourse which tended to exclude minorities in order to include majority of population into a national body. This was a discourse with a strong disciplinising impact when forming the politics of national communities. The second was the existance of multiple loyalties to the empire, family, neigbours, religion etc, which hold the communities together. The comment appreciated the ways in which the papers of the panelists illustrated the functionality of both elements in forming real communities.
