Description The interrelationship and connection pathologies such as diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure have been known since antiquity, when observed forms of diabetes linked to obesity. However, the problem of the metabolic syndrome is associated to Gerald M. Reaven. From this perspective, the metabolic syndrome is therefore relatively young disease, defined 26 years ago. During this time, his definition repeatedly amended and supplemented. Perhaps no other diagnosis had more synonyms than metabolic syndrome, such as dysmetabolic syndrome, civilization syndrome, insulin resistance syndrome, cardiometabolic syndrome and many others. The existence of metabolic syndrome was questioned several times. The clinical definition of metabolic syndrome, however, helps identify people with prediabetes and high cardiovascular risk, which facilitates early nutrition and exercise intervention or appropriate, to initiate pharmacological treatment of individual risk factors. Only in this way can reduce the constantly increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus and affect cardiovascular risk in people with metabolic syndrome.
