| Description | Apixaban is an oral, direct, highly selective Xa inhibitor. Its advantage is the reliable anticoagulation effect without the necessity of continual monitoring of its action. Another advantage is the possibility of oral application in two daily doses. It is indicated in patients undergoing hip or knee joint replacement, and also in the prophylaxis of thromboembolic complications of atrial fibrillation, and in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, as well as in the prevention of recurrence of the two latter conditions. |
