| Description | Heart transplantation is an established method of treatment of patients with advanced heart failure. After successfull operation a long term follow-up begins during which a number of complications can occur. Some of them are adverse effects of long life immunosuppression: eg. metabolic disorders, hypertension, renal insuficiency,vasculopathy, infections or higher incidence of malignities. A specific problem is rejection which can occur any time after the transplantation. Although the heart transplantation brings some risks and adverse effects, it significantly prolongs life expectancy and improves quality of life. |
