Description Uterine hypotony/atony is the most common cause of life-threatening peripartal bleeding. The article presents information on current treatment approaches for this serious complication. There are in detail discussed the pharmacological properties of oxytocin. The incorrect administration may paradoxically lead to a deterioration in critical condition. We also emphasize the need for interdisciplinary cooperation at the same time in dealing of uterine hypotony/atony.
