Description This paper aims to analyze the presence and the treatment of the notion of “regim nominal” in the main 19th century Catalan grammars and Pompeu Fabra. Along the paper, it is shown that during the 19th century, Catalan grammarians, influenced by Latin and Spanish grammars, devoted some space to this concept. Although it didn’t have the meaning that is currently given to it, some authors realized the strong parallelism amongst the DP and sentence structures. In contrast with the tradition, though, Pompeu Fabra did not name this concept in any of his grammars. It is probably due to the fact that he wanted somehow renovate the concept of what a grammar had to be. Moreover, during a long time he devoted his studies to ortography, phonetics and morphology, and when he wanted to work on syntax, in his late grammars, he tried to model contemporary structuralist grammarians, and did not pay attention to this concept, which would have probably been of great interest.
