Description The article deals with different ways of Russian history interpretation in the works of the historians Čestmír Amort, Milan Švankmajer, Zdeněk Sládek and Michal Reiman in relation to contemporary political climate. The communist regime significantly restricted the research, as the sources concern, and above all, it strongly limited the possibilities of the interpretation, especially that of Russian and Soviet history. This can be also seen in the work of Czech historical Rusists. The study demonstrates on some works to what extent the interpretation in the 1950s and 1960s was influenced by the historical period and how these historians were able to free themselves from the boundaries of the history interpretation approved by the communist regime. Moreover, the institutional background of the historians is also taken into account.
