Description The paper deals with the role of dignity in the process of justification of human rights. Could the dignity be their foundations or is it just a phrase in this context? At first the author recapitulates critical reproaches to this concept. The main attention is dedicated to the definition of its various conflicting meanings. He asks the question if the concept of dignity could be useful despite its negative aspects. At last he tries to specify its appropriate place in the legal discourse.
