Description The author of the present article analyses the connection of science in general and art at the example of Eugene Lyatsky and Eugene Vodolazkin and his novels Tundra (1925) and Lavr (2014). In the creations of both of them the phenomenon is being manifested which is typical of Russian literature in general, but – surprisingly - even at that time: the search for new Russian identity – both national and state - and also the search for a new mission of Russia and that of the Russians. It is hard to say that the Czech writer Miloš Urban is very distant from this very stream though his attempts concern not only the Czech nation and its history, but also Central Europe in general, religion, Christianity, art; but in case of E. Vodolazkin who also aims at more general, more abstract categories, a new model of the Russian vision of the past and the present of Russia is being formed, but not only this.
