| Description | The lecture deals with an introduction into the teaching of Zen and its forms of adaptation in medieval Japan. Humorous anecdotes and popular sayings about Zen masters that have for centuries comprised the core of Zen teachings will also be a part of the lecture. We will look into these specific examples of “zen jokes“ from the lives of ancient masters, traditionally employed as a transmission method within the Zen schools, and the practical reality of their alleged humour. |
