Description This article examines how the two most-read broadsheet daily newspapers framed the so-called refugee and migrant crisis in the Czech Republic, a country which has only minimal experience with refugees and migrants from the Middle East and Africa. Using hierarchical cluster analysis to identify the frames, the article explores the extent to which the framing described by previous studies carried out in Western and/or destination countries can also be identified in the Czech daily newspapers, and thus tests their relevance in a different geographical and cultural setting. The results show that the framing used by the Czech dailies closely corresponded to those described in previous research: dailies framed the refugee and migrant crisis mainly as a burden for the state and EU institutions, as a humanitarian crisis, and, to a lesser degree, as a security threat.
